Wayne L. Swanson - July 16, 1918 - June 20, 2004

Wayne L. Swanson, age 85, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Wayne Leroy Swanson was born July 16, 1918, at Kiron, Iowa, to Roy E. and Viola (Buller) Swanson. He spent his childhood years in his parents’ home in Kiron where he attended school, and graduated in 1935 from Kiron High School as the class valedictorian. He attended business school in Omaha.

On March 31, 1938, Wayne was united in marriage to Emily Elaine Eaton of Ruthven. Their union was blessed with three children, Peggy, David and Alvin.

Wayne served as a radarman in the United States Navy during World War II. He learned the craft of watch repair and worked for Paxton’s Jewelry in Storm Lake as watch repairman for 30 years. He was a member of the Isaac Walton League. Wayne was an avid fisherman in his spare time, but he also enjoyed reading and woodworking. Wayne and Elaine were faithful members of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake.

Wayne loved his family and treasured every moment he could spend with his children and grandchildren, and more recently his great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Elaine; daughter Peggy Miller of Storm Lake; sons, David and wife Joan Swanson of Topeka, and Alvin Swanson of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Steve Mimnaugh, Lisa Carlson, Corey Miller, Cindy Glass Brent Swanson and Andy Swanson; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Wayne in death were his parents; two sisters: Dorothy Tranter and Dolly Stoner; and two granddaughters: Laura Mimnaugh and Tressa (Swanson) Torkelson.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 24, 2004, at 11:00 am at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church. Burial will be Thursday at 2:30 pm at Kiron, Iowa, under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home.

Friends may call on Wednesday, June 23, 2004, anytime after 4:00 pm at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will greet friends from 6-8:00 pm.
