Evelyn M. Nehring - Apr. 6, 1919 - July 21, 2004

Evelyn M. Nehring, age 85, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on July 21, 2004, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell, Iowa.

Evelyn Minnie Sievers was born April 6, 1919, to William and Anna (Griffel) Sievers in Grant Township where she lived with her parents. She attended Zion Lutheran School for eight years. Evelyn was baptized on April 27, 1919, and confirmed April 9, 1933, at Zion Lutheran Church by Reverend F. Albrecht. She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.

On September 25, 1938, Evelyn was united in marriage to Wendolin H. Nehring at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Grant Township in rural Storm Lake by Reverend Thomas G. Halbur. To this marriage, nine children were born: Richard, Garland, Shirley, Karolyn, Cynthia, Robert, Shari, Gailyn and Mark. Evelyn was an active housewife who loved to farm and raise her sons and daughters. Evelyn loved and dearly cherished all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

She is survived by her sons: Richard (Rosalie) of Des Moines, Robert (Sara) of Atlantic, Gailyn (Billie) of Storm Lake and Mark (Lori) of Alta; daughters: Shirley (Gary) Williams of Manson, Karolyn (Wayne) Halverson of Storm Lake, Cynthia (Rick) Hatch of Early and Shari McCaulley of Manson; daughter-in-law, Karen Nehring of Newell; sister, Marcella Radke of Storm Lake; sisters-in-law, Doris Sievers, Dorothy Sievers, and Audrey Miller; twenty-six grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wendolin on April 27, 1958; son, Garland in 1977; daughter-in-law, Diane in 1999; son-in-law, John in 1992; brothers: Fred, Willie, Martin and Wayne; sisters: Pauline, Leah, Viola, Eldona and LaVerne.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 25, 2004, at 10:30 am at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake where Reverend Douglas Haynes will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 pm at the church where the family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 pm.
