Mary Katherine Harmdierks - May 28, 1932 - Jan. 31, 2010
Mary K. Harmdierks, age 77, of Rapid City, SD, formally of Storm Lake, IA, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2010, at the Golden Living Center, Prairie Hills in Rapid City, SD.
Mary Katherine Harmdierks was born May 28, 1932, in Speedway, Indiana, to Otto and Nellie Austermiller.
Mary married Arthur (Red) A. Harmdierks on December 27, 1951, in Speedway, Indiana. After Red returned from the war they moved to Garner, IA, and later Britt, IA, and raised 4 children. After Red retired in 1986 they moved to Storm Lake, IA, and spent the next 5 years traveling to the Black Hills, Texas and Las Vegas before Red passed away in 1991. Mary & Red loved traveling and camping.
During their 40 years of marriage they raised 4 children. Their son, Terry Harmdierks lives in Las Vegas, NV, and has 1 child. Son Mark Harmdierks lives in Good Thunder, MN, and has 4 children and 4 grandchildren. Son Todd Harmdierks lives in Le Mars, IA, at the Good Samaritan nursing home and his wife Bonnie lives in Orange City, IA, and has 6 children. Daughter Sherry Hall lives in Williams, IA, with her husband Dave and has 3 children.
After retiring in a career in retail Mary moved to Rapid City, SD, in 2001 where she enjoyed 9 years in the beautiful Black Hills Country which she called home. Mary had many friends in Rapid City that loved her and that she loved dearly. She attended church at Dove Christian Center in Rapid City where she was very active in the Ladies Bible Study and Children’s Ministries. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching Bible School and going out to lunch with the ladies. She had deep faith in God and ministered to many people in her lifetime. She was always praying for her family and friends. Mary was known for always having a smile on her face, looking her best, having many pairs of shoes and being surrounded by beautiful things.
Mary is survived by one daughter, Sherry (Dave) Hall, Williams, IA; and three sons Todd (Bonnie) Harmdierks, Orange City, IA; Mark Harmdierks, Good Thunder, MN; Terry Harmdierks, Las Vegas, NV; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; Nadel, Nikki, Sarah, Tony, Patty, Danielle, Ryan, Katie, Bethany, Benton, Jacob, Nicole, Nathan, Tyler and great-grandchildren, Hayden, Halena, Isabella and Samantha.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Red in 1991, her parents and sister Karen.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2010, at 12:30 p.m. at the Dove Christian Center in Rapid City with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Kirk Funeral Home is in charge of her arrangements.
Mary will be buried next to her beloved husband in Storm Lake, IA, at a later date.
