Darlene E. Hasenbank - Dec. 10, 1931 - Oct. 4, 2004

Darlene E. Hasenbank, age 72, of Newell, Iowa, died Monday, October 4, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Darlene Elizabeth Kischer was born December 10, 1931, to Henry D. and Lenora M. (Ganz) Kischer in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was baptized at home by Pastor Seltzer on December 20, 1931, and later confirmed on March 25, 1945, by Pastor O. H. A. Hoemann. Darlene spent her childhood years on her family’s farm north of Newell, Iowa, attending country school before going to high school in Newell. She graduated from Newell High School with the Class of 1949. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell where she was very active in the Ladies Aid, always happy to help whenever needed for church functions, such as serving funeral dinners.

Darlene was united in marriage to Arthur W. Hasenbank in Newell on her 19th birthday, December 10, 1950. Their union was blessed with three children: Wana, Layne and Rhonda. The Hasenbanks were married nearly 50 years before Art died on June 5, 2000.

Darlene and Art farmed, and she would help out wherever needed, whether outside or doing the bookwork in addition to keeping a warm and comfortable home for her family. She enjoyed gardening and liked to share the bounty produced.

Darlene will be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted mother, a caring grandmother and great-grandmother, a treasured sister and aunt, and a valued friend.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Wana and husband Brent Johnson of Story City, Iowa, Layne and wife Jo Hasenbank of Fonda, Iowa, and Rhonda and husband Scott Bringle of Laurens, Iowa; six grandchildren: Dana and Bret Johnson, Niki and husband Ben Carstens, Libby Hasenbank, Marlena Hasenbank, and Monica and husband Matthew Schimmel; two great-grandchildren: Jackson and Wyatt Carstens; a brother, Melvin Kischer of Newell; as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Art.

Funeral Services will be Friday, October 7, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell with Rev. Michael Harman officiating. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell on Thursday, October 6, 2004, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present.
