Elinor L. Shaw - Dec. 23, 1911 - April 24, 2003

Elinor L. Shaw, age 91, of Storm Lake died Thursday, April 24, 2003, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Elinor Louise Jensen the seventh child of Oliver and Ethel (Russell) Jensen was born on a farm in Sac County, Iowa, on December 23, 1911. When she was 2 months old, her father retired and the family moved to Lake View. After graduating from Lake View High School in 1929, Elinor attended Business School in Omaha.

On August 26, 1933, she was united in marriage to Edward W. Shaw of Wall Lake. The couple spent the first 5 years of their life together in Wall Lake where their son, Tom, was born. In 1938 they moved to Storm Lake and with the exception of a few years during World War II have remained in Storm Lake.

Elinor was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. She participated in many church and community activities, and she especially enjoyed working with children in Bible School each year. She was a 50-year member and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, and she was a charter member and third president of the Methodist Manor Guild and a member of the Cosmopolitan Club. Elinor enjoyed doing volunteer work with the Buena Vista Regional Medical Hospital Auxiliary for several years. Besides her special love of children, she liked reading, flower gardening, collecting flow blue dishes and playing bridge.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Ed, Storm Lake; a son, Tom, and his wife, Sharan, San Antonio, TX; two granddaughters: Stephanie Shaw, San Mateo, CA, and Adrienne Shaw, Oakland, CA; and numerous other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 26th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jamie Cutler officiating. Burial will be in the Wall Lake Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home on Friday after 3 p.m. where the family will be present from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.
