Ruth Fairchild - Jan. 17, 1926 - Sept. 15, 2003

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Ruth Geneal Kenney Fox Fairchild, age 77, passed away September 15, 2003, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with a lingering illness.

She was born January 17, 1926, in Gunnison, Utah, to Leo Amasa and Sarah Mable Levie Kenney. She married Cleo Lee Fox, November 29, 1941, in Reno, Nevada. They had one child, Neldon Lee Fox. They divorced, November 8, 1944. She married Leslie Harold Fairchild, February 26, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had two children, Beth Geneal Fairchild Close and Marcia Ann Fairchild Hagar. Harold died February 20, 1998.

As a child she lived with her parents at Sevier and Gunnison, Utah, attending school through the 9th grade. Later they moved to Salt Lake City, where she attended Granite High School.

Ruth was a loving wife and devoted mother, cherishing the times that were spent with her family. She spent many years as a homemaker and was known as a very good cook. She was very pleased to have won first place at the Clay County Fair for her lemon meringue pie. Ruth enjoyed gardening and loved all flowers, especially roses and peonies. She liked to spend her spare time listening to the older country music songs.

Ruth and Harold liked to travel when possible and they liked to recall special memories of the early 1960’s, when they attended the motorcycle rallies in Sturgis, South Dakota. Ruth worked at the canning factory and at Vilas Turkey Plant in Storm Lake.

Ruth and Harold lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, Storm Lake, Iowa, El Monte, California and finally settled in Storm Lake.

Ruth was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Ruth is survived by her son, Neldon Lee Fox of Orem, Utah, and two daughters, Beth Geneal Fairchild Close of Orem, Utah and Marcia Fairchild (Jerry) Hager of Richfield, Minnesota; grandchildren John Close, Tommy Close, Debbie Close (Rusty) Bench, Rickie Close, Randy (Sarah) Hager, Richard (Jennifer) Hager, Russell Hager, RaLene Fox (David) Wood, Marlene Fox (Kent) Clayson, RaeLee Fox (Bill) Price and Christon Fox; 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; brothers Delmar Leo Kenney, June Dale Kenney and Adrean Jay Kenney. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Harold, her parents and three brothers, Rex Loren Kenney, Fred Amasa Kenney and Raldon Clen Kenney.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 20, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake with President Kent Radford officiating.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Friday, September 19, 2003, where the family will be present until 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Interment will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery, Storm Lake, Iowa.
