Mabel Williams - Oct. 20, 1924 - Oct. 18, 2003

Mabel Williams, age 78, of Newell died Saturday, October 18, 2003, at the Newell Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Newell.

Mabel Leathers was born on October 20, 1924, at Lake City, Iowa, to Vern and Laura (Hamilton) Leathers. She spent her childhood in her parents’ home at Lake City and attended school there, graduating from Lake City High School in 1941.

On March 24, 1946, Mabel and Don E. Williams were united in marriage at the Methodist Church in Glidden, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children, Gary, Jerry and Diane.

Mabel was a loving wife and devoted mother who cherished her family and the time she spent with them. She was a homemaker and also helped in the TV shop half days until her retirement in 1989. She belonged to the United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women. In her spare moments, Mabel enjoyed sewing and playing cards. She was loved by her family and friends and will be missed daily.

Survivors include her husband, Don E. Williams of Newell, her sons Gary Williams, Jerry Williams, her daughter Diane Williams; her grandchildren Nicole, Corey, Adam, Allison, Trisha, Mike, Shuana and Melissa, her great-grandson Blake; her brother Howard and wife Vida Leathers; her sister-in-law Annette Leathers; and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Mabel in death were her parents and her brothers Warren and Maurice Leathers.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, October 23, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Newell with the Reverend Scott Holmes officiating. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
