Dr. David E. Endersby - May 16, 1915 - Mar. 15, 2008

Dr. D.E. Endersby, age 92, of Papillion, Nebraska, and a former long time resident of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the Midlands Hospital at Papillion.

David Earl Endersby, the son of Lorenzo and Goldie (Horn) Endersby, was born on May 16, 1915, at Whitetail, Montana. He lived the first six years of his life on a ranch ten miles east of Whitetail and then moved with his parents to Hillsboro, Henry County, Iowa. After high school graduation, David attended Wesleyan College and Parson’s College before entering dental school at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. There he met and married Lois E. Brown on August 14, 1938. A year later their first child, Lorna, was born and the following year David graduated with the class of 1940. That same year, Dr. Endersby moved his family to Sioux Rapids where he had purchased the dental practice of the late Dr. P.W. Schneck. In 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army and after initial training, he served with the 82nd General Hospital in the European Theatre during World War II. In the fall of 1945, he returned to Sioux Rapids, his family, and his practice. Dr. Endersby ably and faithfully served his family, his community, his church, and his patients practicing dentistry until 1999. He and Lois then moved to a Milford, Iowa, retirement community in 2004 and later to Omaha, Nebraska, in 2007.

Special interests of David’s included fishing, hunting, walking, and animals, especially his dogs. He has a passion for farming and nurtured that interest through his gardening. He had been a member of the Sioux Rapids Baptist Church, the Iowa Dental Association, the American Legion, the Gideons, the Masonic Lodge, the Order of Eastern Star, Campers on Mission, and he had served on the Sioux Rapids School Board and City Council.

Those who will always cherish his memory include his beloved wife of more than 69 years, Lois, of Papillion, Nebraska, his three children and their spouses: Lorna and Rodney Burgeson of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Elizabeth and Dennis Urbanos of Omaha, Nebraska, and Dick and Linda Endersby also of Omaha, Nebraska, eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one great granddaughter, Kathryn Mills.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
