Kenneth Braesch - Feb. 24, 1935 - Nov. 12, 2009

Kenneth Braesch, age 74, of Marathon, Iowa died Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Kenneth Henry Braesch was born in rural Albert City, Iowa on February 24, 1935 to Herman Braesch and Lena (Peterson) Braesch. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Storm Lake, Iowa and later confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church of rural Albert City, Iowa. He went to country schools in rural Albert City and attended high school in Albert City.

He lived on a farm west of Albert City with his parents and worked for other farmers in the community.

Kenny was working at the Farmers Coop elevator in Marathon when he met Phyllis Remillard of Sioux Rapids in 1963. They were married in Jackson, Minnesota on March 24, 1964. They lived in Sioux Rapids for a short while and then moved to Marathon where they still live. They were members of Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon, Iowa. Kenny and Phyllis had moved to a new home about a year ago and he had just finished building a new shed with a workshop and was looking forward to his favorite hobby.

Kenny loved working on small antique engines and owned several antique tractors. He was able to take a tractor apart to just buckets of parts and pieces, clean it up and put it back together and have it running in no time. He also enjoyed helping with fieldwork in the spring and fall. He worked for Myron Franzmeier for several years, then later on for Steve Lind, where he was working this fall. The night before he passed away, Phyllis took supper out to him in the field and had ridden with him in the tractor for awhile. He and Phyllis also enjoyed camping and fishing. Kenny and his brother, Arvid fished quite often and he and Phyllis enjoyed several fishing trips to Leech Lake, Minnesota with Arvid and Alvira Braesch and family. He will be dearly missed by many, especially the Schulz family which could always depend on Kenny to lend a helping hand.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Phyllis of Marathon, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Alvira Braesch of Albert City, Iowa; nieces and nephews too numerous to list; and special family: Dan, Kathy, and Desiree Schulz of Marathon.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lena Braesch; his brother, Arvid Braesch; and Bernice Nielsen.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 16, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will take place Sunday, November 15, 2009 from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City, Iowa. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
