Jean Stone - Apr. 15, 1928 - Mar. 29, 2009
Jean Stone, age 80, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.
Jean DeLoris Carpenter was born April 15, 1928 in West Concord, Minnesota, the daughter of Avery Wesley and Merle (Albaugh) Carpenter. She received her education at Rodman Country School near Rodman, Iowa, where she graduated from high school.
On August 8, 1948, Jean was united in marriage to Keith Stone at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, Iowa. The couple was blessed with eight children: Ronald, Darlene, Richard, Lori, Brenda, Dennis, Deb and Patti.
Jean’s family was her entire life. She was a devoted mother who loved to care for her own children, and she operated a daycare service for the children of others. She took great pleasure in sewing and baking for her family. She grew vegetables and flowers in a large garden. She and Keith enjoyed square dancing, and liked to play cards. Jean was an avid Minnesota Twins baseball fan.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, the Mothers of Twins Club, and Good Sam’s Camping Club. Her family was always first in her heart and she treasured the time she spent with them. Jean’s kind and caring ways will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Darlene Lara of Storm Lake; Richard (friend Trish Snyder) Stone of Peterson, Iowa; Lori (Jay) Siefken of Cherokee, Iowa; Brenda (Neal) Funck of Webb, Iowa; Deb (Tony) Lanus, and Patti Farrell, both of Peterson, Iowa; daughter-in-law Jane Kuchta of Fargo, North Dakota; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brother Raymond (Phyllis) Carpenter of Emmetsburg, Iowa; sisters: Betty Robinson of Everly, Iowa; Cheryl (Allen) Shaw of Laurens, Iowa; Marion (Gaylord) Lewis of Dickens, Iowa; and Glenda Carpenter of Emmetsburg, Iowa; extended family and many friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Keith; two sons, Ronald and Dennis; her grandson, Jeffrey Stough; her great-granddaughter, Ariel Connor; her brother, Paul; her father- and mother-in-law, Walter and Maggie Stone; and two brothers-in-law: Kenneth Robinson and Lee Lindsey.
Services for Mrs. Stone will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon, Iowa. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Friends may call on Wednesday, April 1st from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present.
