Jack Kaufman, age 83, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died July 31, 2009 at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Jack R. Kaufman was born June 23, 1926 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Harold and Pearle (Goff) Kaufman. Jack was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake as an infant and was later confirmed as a youth at the same church. He grew up in the Storm Lake community, where he received his education at North Grade School and later graduated from Storm Lake High School.

Following high school, Jack joined the United States Army. He served his country during World War II and was stationed in the South Pacific, Philippines, and the Army Occupation of Korea. He was awarded the Medal of Good Conduct before he was honorably discharged on August 23, 1946.

On March 13, 1951, Jack was united in marriage to Vivian E. Franzene at the Center Grove Evangelical Church in Alta, Iowa. The couple was blessed with one daughter, Linda, and the family resided in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Jack was a member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church where he served as an usher and a member on the Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Alta VFW, the Lions Club and the Big Brother Organization (always serving as the big brother to Gary Bonnett of Indianola, Iowa). He served as a volunteer fireman for Storm Lake community and was a third generation fireman of the Kaufman family.

Jack worked as a car and auto parts salesman for much of his life until his retirement in 1994. He was an exceptional woodworker. Jack loved to golf and was a member of both Lake Creek Country Club and Alta Country Club. Jack enjoyed watching sporting events especially any sport involving the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Twins, and Chicago Cubs. He liked to travel, read, and spending time with family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Vivian, of Storm Lake; daughter Linda (Chauncey) Jones of Coralville, Iowa; his grandchildren Greta (Timothy) Off of Kansas City, Missouri and Amelia (Aaron) Hainaut of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister, Marjorie (Roy) Clough of Storm Lake, Iowa; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Pearle and Harold Kaufman; his grandparents Frank and Clara Kaufman and O.F. and Dora Goff.

Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. August 03, 2009 at Storm Lake United Methodist Church
Visitation: 5-7:00 p.m. August 02, 2009 at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home
Interment: August 03, 2009 at Storm Lake Cemetery
