Jerry C. Berg, age 84, of Early, Iowa, died August 20, 2009 in Storm Lake, Iowa.Gerald C. Berg, son of Oscar and Nellie (Smith) Berg was born December 24, 1924 in Winnebago, Nebraska. He attended school in the Pender and Homer, Nebraska area.
On November 19, 1943, Jerry joined the United States Army serving in Japan until he was discharged on December 5, 1945. Jerry re-enlisted on December 6, 1945 serving again until he was honorably discharged on September 12, 1946.
After serving for his country, Jerry returned to Sioux City, Iowa where he worked in packing plants and managed two filling stations. On February 14, 1976, Jerry was united in marriage to Dorothy (Hase) Ohrtman in the St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Jerry loved caring for his yard and raising flowers. He enjoyed camping and wintering in the South, but also enjoyed just being at home. Jerry took great pride in his family and it was always a pleasure for Jerry to be able to see his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy of Early, Iowa; his step children: David Ohrtman of Ortonville, Minnesota, Bev Rice and her husband Bill of Storm Lake, Iowa and Kenneth Ohrtman and his wife Deb of Storm Lake; 8 step grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; extended family and many friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Nellie Berg; his four brothers: Harold, Kenneth, Gilbert and Leland; his five sisters: Minnie Underwood, Lola Archer, Alta Nelson, Berniece Cameron and Goldie Bailey.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. August 24, 2009 at Faith Lutheran Church in Early, Iowa
Visitation: 10:00 a.m. August 24, 2009 at Faith Lutheran Church in Early, Iowa
