John Heschke, age 91, of Storm Lake, died Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids.Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake, with military rites by the Alta VFW. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
John D. Heschke was born Oct. 31, 1917, the son of Charles A.F. and Bessie G. (Moriarty) Heschke, in rural Storm Lake. He lived with his parents and siblings on a farm in rural Storm Lake.
From 1941-1945, John proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army.
On May 24, 1944, John was united in marriage to Alma Taylor at the Storm Lake Methodist parsonage.
John was a life long member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church, where he received his baptism and confirmation.
Farming was John's life. He loved the land and dedicated his life to cultivating the earth and raising livestock. His farming interest expanded in his love of farm machinery. It was only during World War II, that he left the farm.
Those left to cherish his memory are his brothers: Darel Heschke and his wife, Alberta from Cherokee, and Kenneth Heschke and his wife, Sarah of Pella; his sister, Phyllis Francis of Storm Lake; brother- and sister-in-law, Frank and Wilma Taylor of Storm Lake; nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alma; brother, Robert Heschke; and brother-in-law, Ellis Francis.
