Louis Winterhof, age 91, of Aurelia, and formerly of Galva, died on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at Sunset Knoll Care Center in Aurelia.

Louis Franz Winterhof was born January 10, 1918, in Cherokee County, a son of Henry and Lilla (Huseman) Winterhof. He was baptized on January 27, 1918, by Reverend Wehking at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hanover, and was later confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1931. Louis received his education in a country school just a few miles from his home place.

Louis resided with his parents, was a farm hand, and worked for Bill Suling shelling corn for farmers in the area. He moved to Galva around 1957 and was employed by the Galva Lumber Yard for fourteen years. After the Lumber Yard closed, he started custom painting in Galva and surrounding areas.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lilla Winterhof; two brothers, Edgar and Lowell Winterhof; and his brother-in-law, Ernst Witt.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 26, 2009, at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Alta. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
