Sarah A. (Brewer) (DeWitt) Ledbetter, age 100, of Storm Lake, died on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Hebron Cemetery in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Sarah Alice Perkins, the daughter of Silas Richard and Fannie B. (Elkins) Perkins, was born in New Hope, Ky., on July 31, 1909. She lived her youth and received her education in New Hope and Louisville, Ky.

On April 26, 1926, Sarah was united in marriage to Emmett A. Brewer at Jeffersonville, Ind. This couple was blessed with a daughter, Nadine. Following their marriage, Emmett and Sarah resided in Louisville, Ky., where Sarah was employed in a woolen mill. Emmett passed away on Oct. 3, 1943.

Sarah married Leonard DeWitt on Feb. 5, 1944, in Louisville. They resided there until moving to Denver, Colo., in 1947. While in Denver, she was employed at Eaker's Department Store. Sarah later worked for the Law & Sons Casket Company for 23 years, sewing the beautiful custom casket interiors. Leonard passed away on April 10, 1974. On Oct. 22, 1977, Sarah married Joseph Ledbetter in Pueblo, Colo. Joseph later died on June 18, 1999. In 2000, Sarah moved to Storm Lake to be closer to her daughter, Nadine, and share in her life. During that time, she made many wonderful friendships.

Sarah was a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church of Storm Lake and the Order of Eastern Star. Throughout her lifetime, Sarah was very involved and dedicated in serving her church in whatever capacity she could. She enjoyed socializing with her many friends and she'll be remembered for her sense of humor, her love of music, playing cards, traveling to Las Vegas, and crocheting many afghans. Sarah was also an accomplished cook and loved making fried chicken, delicious pies and rum cake for her family and friends.

Sarah was deeply loved by her family and friends, which include her daughter, Nadine Brewer of Storm Lake; three grandsons: Skip Madsen of Denver, Colo., Philip Madsen of Seattle, Wash. and Jared Madsen of Emmetsburg; a step-grandson, Dean Aldrich of Mokultumne, Calif.; four great grandchildren: Karla Kjellerson, Erin Alexander Madsen, Anthony James Sanders and Elijah Cole Madsen; a great-great granddaughter, Kayla Kjellerson; other extended family and her many friends that she made through her long life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her three husbands; three brothers; and six sisters.
