Oscar M. Nelson, who lived most of his life in Alta, Buena Vista County, IA, was my great grandfather & the grandfather of Lenore A. Nelson Wheat.

Lenore Nelson Wheat remembers her grandfather Oscar M. Nelson and grandmother Anna Nelson who lived about a mile away from her, on another farm that was about 2 miles from town.
She spent much time at their home.
Oscar liked to have the latest, modern things things. And at one point he bought a car, but evidently was not considered a very good driver. My mother Lenore said she rode with him, but her parents didn't like it much because of Oscar's driving. Eventually, Oscar's wife sold the car.
After Oscar's wife, Anna Kristina Bladine Nelson, died, Oscar lived for awhile with his son Curtis A Nelson on the Curtis A. Nelson farm. Oscar brought his horses , Jack & Jill, with him. Oscar liked sugar/sweets.

This information was provided by my mother, Lenore A Nelson Wheat. She is now age 91 as of 4/7/2018. Another source is a letter from Carol Garner, who wrote that Oscar was about 7 years old when he left Rockford, IL, by train with his parents and moved to Alta,Iowa, where they "broke prairie farmland". While living in Rockford, IL, Oscar's father, Andrew "Peter" Nelson, worked in a flour mill. His wife was Mary Styv( or Styf). They had both come separately from Sweden, to Pennsylvania. According to Lenore Nelson Wheat they worked as indentured servants to pay off their fares from Sweden.
