It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Phillip Scott Richard, affectionately known to all as Scott, who left this world on April 25, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on July 12, 1955, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Emus Richard and Eve Perkins, Scott's life was a tapestry of creativity, music, and a solid dedication to the people and passions he cherished most.
Scott is survived by his two daughters, Rochelle "Shelly" Richard (Iowa City) and Nicole Berry (Grinnell), 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren who will remember him as an inspiring figure who lived life to its fullest.
Preceded in death by his parents, Emus Richard and Eve Perkins.
Scott's journey blossomed in the world of Music, Scott's heart and soul resonated with music. An accomplished musician, he was a vibrant force in the bands Cinnamon and Landslide, where his talent and passion for music shone brightly. A crowning achievement in his musical career was his formal induction into The Iowa Rock 'n Roll Music Association Hall of Fame in 2016, an honor he shared with his former bandmates. He carried on his artistic skills as a Graphic Designer at Moore Business forms and ACT. His artistic spirit found expression not only in music and design but in his love for art and entertainment. Accompanied by his loyal dog Bitzy, Scott's life was one of vibrant exploration and joyful pursuits.
A man who held family, friends, and community close to his heart, Scott will be remembered for his infectious enthusiasm and the warmth he radiated to all who knew him. His boundless energy and zest for life were contagious, inspiring those around him to embrace each moment.
Scott bravely encountered a sudden health decline. With the support of his family and compassionate care at the University of Iowa Hospital, The Rehabilitation Centers of Independence, and the Care Initiatives Hospice staff, their unwavering care provided Scott comfort and peace.
In honoring Scott's wishes, a Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a later date. Though our hearts ache with his loss, we find solace in the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of music, art, and an indomitable spirit that forever echoes in the hearts of those who knew him. As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, we hold dear the memories that light our way forward, cherishing the time we were blessed to share with him. Rest in peace, dear Scott. Your melody will linger on in our hearts, a symphony of love and gratitude.
