Richard B. “Dick” Franck, 87, of Quasqueton, Iowa, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on Monday, April 27, 2026.
Dick was born on July 5, 1938, on a farm in rural Quasqueton, Iowa, the son of Leon L. and Ardis (Kress) Franck. He graduated from Quasqueton High School in 1956 and began a life rooted in hard work, agriculture, and running a portable feed grinder. It was there he met the love of his life, Alice McNamara. The couple was united in marriage on July 30, 1960, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, Iowa. Together, they made their home throughout Buchanan County before settling on their farm in rural Quasqueton in 1974.
Throughout his life, Dick remained dedicated to his community and his work. He was employed by Great Plains Lumber, Rasmussen Drainage, and drove bus for East Buchanan Schools.
Farming was more than a livelihood for Dick; it was his passion. Even after retiring from farming, he found joy in helping his brothers with the corn harvest and attending machinery sales. He cherished time spent outdoors, whether fishing, camping, or simply enjoying the land he loved.
Dick was also committed to supporting local youth, volunteering with the local Boy Scout troop for over ten years. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, who will remember him for his steady presence, strong work ethic, and deep love.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Alice Franck of Quasqueton; his children, Annette (Ronn) Mausser of Quasqueton, Amy Franck of Hudson, Colorado, Duane (Jackie) Franck of Independence, Shawn (Lisa) Franck of Independence, and Jason (Rachel) Franck of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gary (Cathy) Franck of Center Point and Dennis (Patricia) Franck of Independence; one sister, Patsy Burrell of Independence; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Ardis Franck; his father- and mother-in-law, Leonard and Beulah McNamara; two grandchildren, Kelsi Franck and Royce Sutton; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Janet Franck; and a brother-in-law, Spencer Burrell.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Reiff Family Center–Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with a Memory Service at 6:00 p.m.
