Joyce A. Stickfort, age 82, of Independence, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the Independence Rehabilitation Center.

Joyce was born on November 3, 1942, in Independence, the daughter of Gilbert J. and Fern M. (Christensen) Brockling. A proud graduate of the St. John’s High School Class of 1960, she remained a lifelong resident of the community she loved.

Joyce dedicated her life to raising her five children, leading by example with kindness, patience, and an open heart. She was a steady and compassionate presence—always ready to listen and genuinely interested in hearing about her children’s day. She was a good mom, and her love and wisdom continue to live on in the lives of her children and grandchildren.

On July 19, 1994, Joyce married Roger D. Stickfort in Galena, Illinois. Together, they built a warm and loving home in Independence. Roger passed away in 1999.

In 1995, Joyce began working as a cook at St. John’s Catholic School, a role she cherished, especially the opportunity to greet the students each day. In 2015, she worked part-time at Kwik Star in Independence, where she enjoyed the friendly faces and daily conversations. She retired in 2020.

Joyce had a gift for friendship. Her easygoing nature and genuine warmth helped her form many close, lifelong bonds. Whether catching up over ice cream or taking a leisurely drive through the countryside, she valued simple moments spent with the people she cared about most.

She is survived by her children: Bruce (Jeannette) Greiner of Carlile, IA; Clark (Corina) Greiner of Nashville, IN; Angie (David) Derr of Independence, IA; and Joshua (Mandy Williams) Zimpher of Winthrop, IA; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Brockling of Independence and Rick Brockling of Kansas City, KS; a sister-in-law, Jean Brockling of Independence; and several nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Fern Brockling; her beloved husband, Roger Stickfort; a son, Wade Greiner; and a brother, Jim Brockling.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:30 AM at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence.

Joyce’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
