Echo E. Kress, 80, of Quasqueton, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.

Echo was born on July 16, 1945, in Iowa, the daughter of Alfred and Jeanette (Taylor) Schermerhorn. She grew up in Winthrop and graduated from East Buchanan High School in 1961. On August 3, 1963, Echo was united in marriage to Donald Kress at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Together, they made their home in Quasqueton, and went to work at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids.

Echo devoted her early years to being a loving and dedicated homemaker. Once her sons were old enough, she rejoined the workforce, holding positions at, Triangle Plastics, and later at Tyson Foods in Oelwein. She was known for her strong work ethic, kind heart, and steady presence.

Echo’s greatest joy came from her family. She was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who never missed a chance to support and celebrate her loved ones. Whether it was a family gathering, a school event, or a quiet afternoon visit, Echo’s warmth and caring spirit were always felt.

She is survived by her sons, Chris (Melody) Kress of Manchester and Luke Kress of Quasqueton; her grandchildren, Derek Kress, Nicole (Christopher) Opp, and Makayla (Cody) Allison; and her great-grandchildren, Riley, Adysen, Gage, and Rowan.

Echo was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Jeanette, and her beloved husband, Don.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, Iowa. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor Echo’s life and legacy.
