Margaret A. “Peggy” Zieser, 83 of Rowley, IA, died Friday, December 6, 2024, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Peggy was born January 4, 1941, on Standing Rock Indian Reservation, Mobridge, SD, the daughter of Joseph Patrick Leonard and Martha (Herber) Leonard. She graduated from St. John’s High School in Independence with the class of 1958. On August 12, 1958, she was united in marriage to Richard Leo “Dick” Zieser in Lead, SD. She worked alongside her husband Dick on the farm near Rowley, IA. Se was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Rowley; was the church bookkeeper and taught CCD. She was a homemaker and mother who enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning and caring for her family. She often said she lived a “nomadic life,” as she moved multiple times at a young age. She was a wise and caring person that stood up for those dealing with injustices. She was also a member of St. John Catholic Church in Independence.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Richard Zieser of Rowley, her children, Rick (Linda) Zieser of Delano, MN, Dana (Mark) Woeste of Mantorville, MN, Mark (Marcia Downs) Zieser of Rowley; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary (Ron) Pritchett of Centennial, CO, Catherine (Larry) Mitchell of Spearfish, SD; also, many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Patrick Leonard; a still born great grandson, Warren Thomas Zieser and still born children, Brian Zieser, Michael Zieser, Debra Zieser, and Mary Kay Zieser.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. – Saturday, December 14, 2024, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, IA, with Very Rev. David M. Beckman as celebrant. Burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Independence.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2024, at the White Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a parish rosary at 3:30 p.m. and vigil service at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will continue for an hour before services, Saturday, at the church.
Memorials may be directed to St. John Catholic School.
