Robert (Bob) Joseph Kane, 81, of Winthrop, Iowa died Thursday evening October 3, 2024, at the Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein, IA.

Bob was born on June 6, 1943, in Independence, IA the son of Joseph William and Marie Elizabeth (Kelly) Kane. He was a 1961 graduate of the East Buchanan High School in Winthrop, IA. Following his graduation he entered the US Army on January 10, 1962, faithfully serving his country until his discharge on December 28, 1964. Upon his return he became employed with the FJ Krob Company.

On April 23, 1966, he married the love of his life Myrna Mae Butterfield at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, Iowa. The couple made their home on a dairy farm near Coggon, Iowa where they raised five children: Michele, Mike, Marcia, Manette and Mark.

Bob was a proud dairy farmer, always willing to figure out new ways to do tasks and worked hard to instill that work ethic to his family. He was a problem solver and knew a lot about everything. When he could no longer do the physical labor, he always had suggestions and insights to save money or time no matter the issue. He enjoyed taking van rides with Myrna to enjoy the countryside and the change of seasons. For several years they traveled to south Texas for the winter months.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Myrna, his five children: Michele (Kevin) Hogue, Troy Mills, IA; Mike (Renneta) Kane, Troy Mills, IA; Marcia (Jeff) Takes, Coggon, IA; Manette (Scot) McEnany, Walker, IA; and Mark (Melissa) Kane, Coggon, IA. Fifteen Grandchildren: Josh Hogue, Jamie Kane, Jason Kane, Bryan Takes, Kelsey Takes, Julie VanDyke, Janell Kane, Kane McEnany, Cassie Klendworth, Nathan McEnany, Trey McEnany, Gracyn Kane, Gretchyn Kane, Gwyn Kane, Tyson Kane, and eight great grandchildren. A sister, Betty Jean (Jim) Bateman, Winthrop, IA, and a brother William (Hollie) Kane, Coggon, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marie Kane.
