Archie L. Miller, 92, of Independence, IA died on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at his home in rural Independence, IA.

Archie was born on July 13, 1931, in Delhi, IA the son of Lyle and Pearl (Turner) Miller. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951 and was stationed on the USS Pilot during the Korean War. On August 25, 1952, he was married to Marlis M. Menuey in Dundee, Iowa. The couple made their home in Charleston, SC while Archie served his country. In 1953, Archie was honorable discharged from the Navy and the Miller’s made their home in Evansdale, IA.

He soon started working at Rath Packing in Waterloo, IA. Archie always wanted to farm, and in the early 1960’s he purchased a farm just south of Independence, IA. For the next twenty years, Archie continued to work the third shift at Rath Packing and came home to tend to all the farm chores, animals, and his family. He finally stopped working at Rath Packing when the company closed in 1984.

Archie loved taking care of his land and family. In his free time, he could be found in his shop fixing his tractors, or anything that needed his attention. He enjoyed going on motorcycle rides in the summer and riding snowmobiles in the winter.

He enjoyed raising his children but loved watching his grandchildren grow into the people they are today. When his children were grown, he invited them back to his neighborhood and helped each of them build their homes. He and Marlis often would watch their grandchildren overnight, and many memories were made during those adventures at the Millers house.

He is survived by his four daughters: Debra Noesen, Independence, IA, Kim (Ted) Kappel, Cincinnati, OH, Julie Noe, Rowley, IA, and Pam (Bob) Noe, Independence, IA., nine grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Harriet Fisher, Marion, IA, and Helen Brown, Corpus Cristi, TX.

Archie is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marlis Miller, a son-in-law, Mike Noe, a great-grandchild, Asher Noesen, two sisters, May Keenan and Dorothy Pinch, and five brothers; Raymond, Roy, Harry, Clifford, and George Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 12 PM Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the Reiff Family Center - Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA. Burial will be in the Floral Hills Memorial Garden, Hazelton, IA. Friends may call from 10 to 12 PM on Tuesday.

The Miller family would like to thank, Renne Galgocy (his caregiver for over seven years), St. Croix Hospice, and Right at Home Health Care for the outstanding care and compassion they had given to Archie throughout his last years.
