Donald T. Doyle 56, of Independence, IA, died on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at his home in Independence, IA.

Donald was born on April 9, 1968, in Independence, IA, the son of Phillip E. and Marilyn (Derby) Doyle. He attended the Independence Community Schools and was a 1986 graduate of Jefferson High School. Don went on to enlist in the United States Navy in 1987. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Saratoga and served during the Gulf War. After Don was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1991, he returned to Independence, IA. Don went on to study to be an Electrician at Hawkeye Community College and graduated in 2008. He soon took a job as an Electrician at John Deere in Waterloo. He spent over fifteen years maintaining the machines and buildings. Don made many friends at work and served for several years as a Union Steward for UAW 838.

He was a member of V.F.W. Post 2440 and the American Legion Post 30 in Independence, IA.

On February 26, 2013, Don married Kelley K. Hocken in Cancun, Mexico. Don was an avid fisherman and enjoyed being outside. He also enjoyed going boating, camping, and golfing. He loved to travel and took his family on vacations every year. What Don loved the most was spending time with family and friends.

Don loved being a grandfather and enjoyed every moment he spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Kelley Doyle, Independence, IA, his sons, James (Candace) Hocken, and Jonathan (Nikki) Hocken, both of Independence, IA, five grandchildren: Huxley, Hollis, Aleaha, Kaelyn, and Jordan, a sister, Brenda Peyman, Independence, IA, four nieces, a nephew, and many lifelong friends.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Doyle, and Marilyn Bengston.

Visitation will be held from 12 PM until 2 PM on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA.

A Memorial service will be held at 2 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4 PM until 7 PM at Denali’s Restaurant in Independence, after the services on Friday.
