Charles E. “Chuck” Maness, 71, of Arlington, Iowa, died Friday morning, January 13, 2023, at his home.
Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M. Thursday, January 19, 2023, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington, Iowa, with Rev. Scott Hall officiating.

Visitation: 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 18, 2023, and for one hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Interment: Union Cemetery, Putnam Township, rural Aurora, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the family to assist with funeral expenses. Memorials may be sent to Rebecca Heidt 623 Clay Street Arlington, Iowa 50606.

Charles Edward Maness was born September 13, 1951, in New Madrid, Missouri, the son of Luther Thomas Jefferson and Juanita Lucille (Brown) Maness. He grew up in Missouri, Arkansas, Washington, Oelwein and Evansdale. Charles attended Kirkwood College for small engine repair. On March 7, 1973, he was united in marriage to Shela Beth Thein in Galena, Illinois. For many years he worked for area farmers and for 16 years, he drove semi cross country. Charles retired in 1986. He was a lifetime member of the North America Hunters and Fisher Club and the NRA. Charles enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, embroidering, puzzles, hunting, fishing, camping, automotive work, small engine repair, motorcycles, traveling, driving and assembling and painting model cars. He was an avid gun, knife, and zippo lighter collector. He also enjoyed cooking his well-known stuffed peppers, peanut brittle, cashew brittle and fudge.

Charles is survived by his 4 daughters: Kathy (James) Yates of Reinbeck, Janet Klatt (Dennis Nuss) of Oelwein, Ronda (Craig) Strief of Strawberry Point and Rebecca (Darrell) Heidt of Arlington; mother-in-law: Dorothy Thein of Arlington; 8 grandchildren: Shelby (Joshua) Rietgraf of Des Moines, Brittany Yates (Michael Sudbeck) of Reinbeck, Brandi Yates of Reinbeck, Levi (Jenny) Nuss of Oelwein, Courtny (Brandy) Puffett of Hazleton, Amanda (Isaac) Scarborough of Manchester, Kaitlyn Heidt of Arlington and Jakob Heidt of Arlington; 5 great grandchildren: Johnathan Davis and Isiah Brimmer of Strawberry Point, Myla Nuss and Landon Nuss of Oelwein and Jax Puffett of Hazleton; brothers: David (Kathy) Maness of Arlington and Raymond Warren of Cedar Rapids; sisters: Margie (Vernon) Brewer of Mountain View, Arkansas and Ine Maness of Clarksville, Arkansas; brothers-in-law: Terry (Barb) Thein of Hawkeye, Todd (Julie) Thein of Hawkeye, Randy (Loni) Thein of Arlington and Kreg Thein of Oelwein; best friend: Furbaby Princess Maness of Arlington; and many aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces; nephews; and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; parents; wife: Shela on September 26, 2021; brother: Kenneth Maness; and 2 sisters: Dorothy Maness and Thelma Maness.
