Philip “Mike” Allen, 72, of Independence, IA died on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at ABCM Rehabilitation Center – West Campus in Independence, IA.

Mike was born on November 8, 1950, in Ottumwa, IA, the son of Donald E. and Colleen J. (Hunt) Allen. He was raised in Eldon, IA and attended Cardinal Community High School where his friends nicknamed him “Cat Allen”. After graduating high school in 1968, Mike moved to the Denver, CO area where he attended a trade school learning to repair and fly airplanes. He then returned to the SE Iowa area where he worked as a tradesman. Mike also spent several years in Des Moines, IA working for the Salvation Army repairing computers and electronics.

Mike had a passion for fixing things, He spent countless hours building and repairing computers. He was the “Tech Support” guy for all family, friends, and neighbors whenever they needed help with an issue.

Family was very important to Mike, He enjoyed helping take care of his nieces and nephews and could often be found sitting in the playpen just having a fun time. Mike also enjoyed camping, riding bicycles and being outside, he spent several summers at his Aunt and Uncle’s Resort in Nevis, MN.

He is survived by a son, Tyler (Amanda) Allen, Independence, IA, a granddaughter, Ainslyn Allen, and a sister, Myra (Wes) Higdon, Altoona, IA, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Colleen Allen, and a sister Marlys Allen.

A private service will be held at a later date.
