Marilyn A. Summers, 65 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died suddenly on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. She was born on November 15, 1956, in Independence, the daughter of Ralph Henry and Nettie Eliza (Prindle) Cashen. She graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1975 and then continued her education at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa. On November 22, 1974, she and Carl Thomas Summers were married at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Independence. Mrs. Summers was a paramedic and EMT at area hospitals. She also was a group home administrator before retiring in 2020. She enjoyed sewing and all needle work and collected and repaired sewing machines. She also grew flowers and was an amateur interior decorator.

Mrs. Summers is survived by her husband of 47 years, Carl, 3 daughters, Bridgett (Michael) Gamm of Des Moines, Iowa, Andria (Garry) Anderson of Independence, and Caroline (Andrew) Ludka of Franklin, Wisconsin, 1 son, Zacharry Summers of Cedar Falls, Iowa, 7 grandchildren, and 1 brother, John Cashen of Independence.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Rev. Paul Evans officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, November 7th, at the funeral home. On line condolences may be left at www.White-MtHope.com.
