Charles “Charlie” Pech entered his eternal rest on Thursday morning, May 26, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospice in Cedar Rapids after complications of a fall in his home. He was 92 years young.

Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Grace United Methodist Church, Lamont, with Rev. Lisa Schroeder officiating.

Visitation: 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church.

Military Services by the Lamont American Legion.

Interment: Campton Cemetery, rural Lamont, Iowa.

At his request, memorials may be directed to the Loren Foster American Legion Post #346 of Lamont, Iowa, a local Legion or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Fawcett-Schmitz Funeral Homes of Winthrop & Lamont is assisting the family.

Charles Albert Pech was born on August 10, 1929, on a farm near Lamont, Iowa, the son of Albert & Freda (Fewell) Pech. He was a 1947 graduate of Lamont High School, honored as valedictorian. Shirley Jean Hall and he married on October 22, 1950, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Lamont. To this union were born three children: David, Barbara and Joel. They farmed for many years at the family farm near Lamont before moving to town.

Charlie was a veteran of the Korean War, loved his country, and enjoyed the yearly reunions with his Army brothers as well as being an active member of Loren Foster Legion Post #346 in Lamont. He proudly participated in Legion activities, honor guards, fish fries and fundraisers. He was a Township Trustee, Mayor of Lamont as well as being involved in other civic events.

To stay young, Charlie loved to spend time with family, especially activities involving the (great) grandchildren. He loved to travel and meet new people. Over the years, he was on many teams: bowling, golfing, card clubs and most recently the Euchre games at the Common Grounds.

Charlie is survived by his children: Dave (Bev) of Lamont, Barb (John) McKusker of Marengo and Joel of Carlisle; six grandchildren: Jon Pech, Leah (Chris) Eslick, Cody (Katie) Pech, Derek (Ashley) Pech, Mallory (Colin Jund) Pech, Andrew Pech; five great grandchildren: Lily and Dylan Eslick, Josephine Pech, Bennett and Charlie Pech; one brother: Ed (Sherry) Pech; one sister: Shirley Hardin; and several nieces & nephews.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Shirley; brother: Don and sister: Joyce Glass.

Charlie’s family wants to extend their thanks to the Lamont First Responders, the staff of VA Hospital, UIHC, and to St. Luke’s Rehab and Hospice for the kind and compassionate care in his final weeks.
