Dorothy E. Knavel, 87, of Hazleton, Iowa, died Monday, April 11, 2022, at her home.

There will be no funeral services.

Inurnment: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Hazleton Fontana Cemetery, Hazleton.

The family requests no gifts.

Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein is assisting the family.

Dorothy Ellen Roepke was born November 18, 1934, in Hazleton Township, Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of Rudolph and Edna Ellen (Weitnauer) Roepke. In 1952, she graduated from Hazleton High School. On April 14, 1984, she was united in marriage to Robert Joseph Knavel in Oelwein. Dorothy retired at the age of 55, after 25 years with Rockwell Collins. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, watching the deer and birds and most of all spending time with the grandkids at the cabins.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Vicki (Dan) Gearhart of Winthrop and Dale VanHeiden of Hazleton; 4 grandchildren; 4 siblings: Thelma Duckett of Texas, Elaine Rockwood of Janesville, Judy Crandall (Mark Lang) of Cedar Rapids and Alice Roepke (Michael Vega) of Texas; sister-in-law: Susan Roepke of Hazleton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Bob; and son: Chuck VanHeiden; brothers: Jerry Roepke, James Roepke and Paul Roepke; sisters: Gladys Higgins, and Marilyn Medberry; and a sister at infancy: Bessie Roepke.
