Bert R. Zimpher, aka Desperado, 83, of Waterloo, IA died on April 11, 2022, at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Bert was born on September 5, 1938, in Independence, IA, the son of Bert and Alta (Beck) Zimpher. He attended Jefferson High School, Independence, IA. He worked at Roberts and Dybdahl Inc. in Waterloo, IA, for 30+ years.

He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. They would go fishing, to the Cattle Congress, parks, Black Friday Shopping, and play cards. He also enjoyed spending time with John & Erika and the neighborhood crew.

He is survived by his daughter, Angie (David Derr) Zimpher, Independence, IA, a son, Josh (Mandy Williams) Zimpher, Winthrop, IA, a niece Debbie (Larry) Hanna, six grandchildren, Brandon, Dillion, Cierra, Jasmine, Nathaniel, and Courtney, and two great-granddaughters, Indi and Marceline.

Bert is preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Alta Zimpher, a brother Willie Zimpher, and two sisters, Neva and Lucille.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 12 PM until 3 PM in the Community Room of the Reiff Family Center - Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA with burial at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
