John L. “Jack” Evers, 84, of Independence, IA, formally of Rowley, IA, died on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Prairie Hills Assisted Living Center in Independence, IA.

Jack was born on June 14, 1937, in Hopkinton, IA, the son of Michael and Myrtle (Leonard) Evers. In his early years, his family moved throughout eastern Iowa and settled in Winthrop, IA in 1950. There Jack attended Winthrop High School and graduated in 1956. While in school Jack was known as a talented baseball and basketball player and won many games with the Winthrop Town Team throughout eastern Iowa. He went on to proudly serve in the United States Army until 1962. Upon his return to Iowa, he continued farming in Winthrop, until the family purchased a farm in Rowley, IA. He later purchased and took over all the operations of the farm in 1988.

Jack loved sports and was known for his knowledge of sports facts. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan. But what he enjoyed most was watching his nieces and nephews compete. He always attended their sporting events throughout years, and always rooted for them.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews; John (Linda) Evers, Independence, IA, Sandra (Gary) Schwab, Monticello, IA, Jana (Jim) Siebels, Monticello, LuAnn (Gary) Weber, Monticello, IA, Faye (Kevin) Williams, Monticello, IA, Roy (Susana) Postel, Fernandina, Fl, Joe (Catherine) Postel, Chicago, IL, Martin (Holly) Postel, Cedar Falls, IA, Michelle (Dennis) Dirks, Monticello, IA, Angie (Frank) Bertling, Wasilla, AK, David (Kelly) Postel, Monticello, IA, Lisa (Lynn) Mootz, Monticello, IA, Steve (Wendy) Postel, Polk City, IA.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Myrtle Evers, a brother, Donald Evers, and two sisters, Kathleen Postel and Mildred Gilmore.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, IA with Rev. David Beckman Presiding and Rev. Mr. Timothy Post Co celebrating. Burial will be held at Castle Grove Catholic Cemetery in Monticello, IA. Visitation will be held from 4 PM until 7 PM on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at the Reiff Family Center - Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence. A Rosary will be said at 4 PM on Wednesday.
