Harvey R. Chesmore, 82, of Quasqueton, IA, died on Monday, December 20, 2021, at his home.

Harvey was born the son of Roy and Mable (Hocken) Chesmore; on his family’s farm in Rowley, IA on June 18, 1939. He grew up helping on the farm and often could be found on the banks of the Wapsipinicon River fishing whenever he could. He attended the Cono Country School in rural Rowley, IA, where he walked several miles to school every day. He was a 1958 graduate of the Quasqueton High School and went on to become a certified Electrician. On October 4, 1958, he married Nedra J. Manson and they made their home in Quasqueton, IA. Harvey worked as an Electrician in Independence, IA for several years before taking a job at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. While working at Collins he earned a degree in Electronic Operations Technology from the De Vry Institute of Technology. He worked there for forty-two years as an Electrical Test Technician and retired in 2002.

Harvey was an active member for many years in the community. He volunteered with the Quasqueton Historical Society, was President of the Quasqueton Senior Housing and was on the Board of Directors of the Buffalo Creek Golf Course. Harvey was a member of the Masons and held the position of Master Mason.

Harvey loved the Quasqueton community so much it was rare for him to leave for a stretch of time. Occasionally, family was able to pry him away from his beloved home town to visit places of historical significance such as National Parks, Gettysburg and Washington D.C. He attended family gatherings at lake cabins in Wisconsin and Minnesota and also visited Branson, Missouri with his wife and friends several times.

Harvey always participated in sports, such as, basketball, baseball, and softball in his younger years. He also excelled at bowling, and pool. Golf became a lifelong passion and he spent many hours during the summers out on the course with friends and family. He also had a passion for the outdoors and spent time hunting when younger and has always been a fisherman. He treasured his many walleye fishing trips to Minnesota and elsewhere with friends and family. He loved to spend time fishing, mushroom hunting, and just hanging out at the old family farm south of Quasky along the Wapsi. This was a special place for him that he shared with family by teaching fishing, hunting, camping, driving etc. to his children and grandchildren. If you visited one of the bars in Quasky more than likely you would find him playing cards at one of the back tables.

He is survived by his wife, Nedra Chesmore, Quasqueton, IA, his children; Russell (Patricia) Chesmore, Verona, WI, Lynette (Richard) Richter, Maple Grove, MN, Kevin (Melissa) Chesmore, Firestone, CO, Kurt (Kelli) Chesmore, Center Point, IA, and Kent (Stephanie) Chesmore, Cedar Falls, IA, ten grandchildren; Brent (Kristyn Romanowski) Chesmore, Ashley (Brandon) Boat, Merissa (Mat) Marcussen, Cody (Michael Desoto) Chesmore, Lauren (Jacob) Petersen, Courtney (Henry) Chesmore, Aaron Richter, Josie (Nick) Dighton, Max Chesmore, Makenna Chesmore, four great-grandchildren; Nora Petersen, Anna Petersen, Arie Boat, and Malcolm Boat, a sister Sandra (Bob) Hines, Cuba, MO, and many nieces and nephews.
