Larry Dean Foster, 76, died on October 26, 2020. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 16, starting at 11 a.m. at VFW Post 2440 & Auxiliary, 128 3rd Avenue NE, Independence.

Larry was born in Independence on July 2, 1944, to Virgil and Irene Foster. He grew up as a farm kid milking Guernsey cows and helping his dad haul milk to the creamery for the local dairy farmers. He was also involved in 4-H and FFA.

In 1966, he joined the National Guard at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He married Betty Meighan, and they welcomed their first son, Coley, into the world. He worked at John Deere, then attended Camp Dodge to acquire his lieutenant's bars. He worked for many years as an Army recruiter, moving his growing family – which now included Chad and Casey – around the Midwest.

In 1983, he decided it was time to get back into agriculture, and bought 60 registered Jersey cows, and also welcomed one more daughter, Callie, into the family. The cows left in 1991 due to his rigorous travel with the military.

His military career took him all over the world, including Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the Soviet Union, and many more places. He earned many military awards.

Larry and Betty divorced, and he eventually remarried Marcella "Sally" Foster, and the family grew by two children, Courtney and Josh. Living in Indiana, he started his own trucking business that he and Sally operated until retirement. They moved to Florida, and he spent the rest of his years working on his favorite hobbies – grilling, gardening, and building and showing off his pulling tractors and mini rods.

Larry is survived by his wife, Marcella; three children, Chad (Heidi) of Springfield, Missouri, Casey (Eric) Stone of Elgin, Iowa, and Callie Courtney of Elgin, Minnesota; two stepchildren, Courtney (Josh) Wiggington of Franklin, Indiana, and Josh (Ashley) Williams of Louisville, Kentucky; nine grandchildren; one brother, Terry (Deb) Foster of Independence, Iowa; two nephews; and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Coley Foster; and a daughter, Anjela Foster.
