Dennis G. Emberton, 84, of Brandon, died peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Independence. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, at Kearns Funeral Service in Waterloo. A recording of the service will be available on the funeral home website. Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, March 5, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Kearns. Inurnment will be at West View Cemetery in La Porte City

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. A memorial fund will be determined at a later date.

Dennis was born on December 1, 1936, in Dysart, the son of Ai and Florence (Hilmer) Emberton. He graduated from La Porte City High School with the class of 1955. Dennis married Ruth Ann Arensberg on September 8, 1957, at the United Methodist Church in Garrison.

Dennis was a farmer for 53 years, and had also worked at Rath Packing Company for 30 years until its closing.

Farming was his passion. He loved his morning coffee while visiting with his friends. He and Ann would often go for country drives, checking out the fields and stopping for an ice cream cone. Dennis treasured his family and the time he spent with them, whether attending family get togethers or watching his children and grandchildren participate in sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth "Ann" Emberton of Brandon; five daughters, Teresa (Chris) Radley of Des Moines, Shelly (Marc) Cabalka of Independence, Kelly (Terry) Weber of Independence, Tammy (Larry) Thies of Raymond, and Pam (Tim) Dryml of Independence; 11 grandchildren, Eric Radley, Jennifer Radley, Samantha Barnes, Amy Cabalka, Matt Uthoff, Jodi Uthoff, Derek Weber, Bryce Weber, Trey Weber, Melissa Dryml, and Tara Dryml; eight great-grandchildren, Baileigh, Tenleigh, and Jaxon Uthoff, Rowen and Rylee Radley, Mya and Scarlett Stiefel, and Carrick Barnes; a sister, Beverly (Ed) Baldwin of La Porte City; a sister-in-law, Carol Emberton of Anamosa; and nieces and nephews.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Shannon Emberton.
