INDEPENDENCE – Ivan Cole, 74, of Independence died on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at his home in Independence. A visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 2, at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, at the funeral home.

Ivan was born on October 14, 1946, in Independence, the son of Oliver and Ruth (Bantz) Cole. He was a 1965 graduate of the Independence High School and shortly after joined the U.S. Navy. Ivan attended the University of Northern Iowa to study engineering. On June 16, 1973, he married Kay Reed in Princeton, Illinois. They made their home between Independence and Masonville. He went on to work at John Deere in Waterloo, and at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, before joining the team at Triangle Plastic in Independence. He retired in 1996.

He was a member of the Buffalo Creek Golf Course as well as Pat's Tap Pool League, in which he competed for many years.

Ivan is survived by Kay, his wife of 48 years, of Independence; his stepdaughters, Jackie (Duane) Franck of Independence and Kristi (Chip) Cooksley of Winthrop; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Delmar (Marcia) Cole of Grundy Center.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Kenny Cole.
