Lavon Marie Lux, 77, of Des Moines, IA, (formerly of Jesup, IA) died Friday, April 30, 2021, at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines.

She was born on November 15, 1943, in Oelwein, IA, daughter of Reginald (Bud) and Erma (Lickiss) Opperman.
Lavon graduated from Arlington High School in 1962. In 1964, Lavon married Tom Versluis. They later divorced. In 1976, Lavon married Donnie Lux.

Lavon worked for the Jesup Community School System for over 32 years. Following retirement, she missed her daily interaction with children and began working for the St. Athanasius School in Jesup. She later retired from St. Athanasius to care for her husband, Donnie.

Lavon is survived by three daughters, Tammy (Tom) Burlis of Chesterfield, MO; Tracy (Dennis) Weaver and Tina (Wade) Bagenstos of Des Moines, IA. five step-sons, Curt Lux of Port Richie, FL; Gary (Wanda) Lux of Holt Summit, MO; Keith (Kelly) Lux of Waukee, IA; Rodney (Roxane) Lux of Waterloo, IA and Richard Lux of St. Petersburg, FL; 11 grandchildren, Taylor and Nathan Burlis of Chesterfield, MO and Blake and Ryan Bagenstos of Des Moines, IA; Kelly (Corey) Pontius of Mokane, MO; Jenny (De’Mario) Mabry of Waterloo, IA, Josh Lux of Holt Summit, MO; Ashley (David) May and Justin Lux of Waukee, IA; Sarah and Corey Lux of Waterloo, IA; Chad Lux, Matt Lux, Andy Lux, and Tommy Lux of St. Petersburg, FL and Richard Lux of Chicago, IL; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Duane Eckheart of Arlington, Iowa and brother and sister-in-law, Doris and Wayne Natvig of Jesup, IA.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Donnie, and sister, Delores Lighty.

Funeral services are planned for 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at the American Lutheran Church, Jesup, IA, with Pastor Kristen Corr-Rod, officiating. Music will be by Monica Bengston, organist, and Todd Rohlfsen, soloist. Casket bearers are Tom Burlis, Nathan Burlis, Dennis Weaver, Wade Bagenstos, Blake Bagenstos, Ryan Bagenstos and Lyle Gibbs. Burial will be at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 3 at White Funeral Home, Jesup. Memorials will be directed to the American Lutheran Church in Jesup and to Hospice organizations.
