Harvey L. See, 76, of Independence, IA passed away on Wednesday May 12, 2021 at Unity Point – Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, IA.

Harvey was born on August 4, 1944 in Tama, IA the son of Jon H. and Amanda M. (Smith) See. He attended the Tama Community Schools. Harvey started working in the grocery business early in his life. He started working at Smitty’s Grocery in Marshalltown, IA. His work ethic was noticed, and he quickly became a store Assistant Manager. In 1965, he married Mary Sue Sheda, together they had two sons, Anthony and Terry. They were later divorced.

He joined the United States Army on May 26, 1970 and served with honor during the Vietnam War. When he returned from the Army he moved to Waterloo, IA and started working for John Deere’s. While working there, he met Nancy E. Scott. They were married on February 17, 1973 and made there home in Independence, IA. Harvey missed working in the grocery business and went to work at HyVee in Waterloo. He worked there for over twenty years as the Produce Manager. Harvey liked to stay busy, when he retired from HyVee he started working part time at Iowa Ham and Fareway in Independence.

Harvey loved to serve his community. He volunteered for many years at Lexington Estates in Independence, and served for many years as the Commander of VFW Post 2440

He is survived by a sister, Donna Blanchard, Wooster, AK, a brother, Edward See, Cedar Falls, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

Harvey is preceded in death by his parents, John and Amanda See, his wife, Nancy See, his sons, Anthony Jacobi and Terry Jacobi, four brothers, John See Jr., Robert, Harry “Butch”, and Edgar See, and a sister, Carolyn Meyer.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA. Burial with Military Honors will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11 AM until the service at 1 PM at the Reiff Family Center.
