James Lewis “Jim” Fillinger, Jr., 87, of Independence, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 4:55 am.

Jim was born October 3, 1933 at Crawley Creek, Chapmanville, WV, the son of the late James Lewis and Roma Ufay (Johnson) Fillinger.

Jim was baptized in a Southern Baptist Church in Crawley Creek, WV. He attended grade school at Crawely Creek and high school in Man, WV. He served in the US Air Force from October 13, 1953 until he was honorably discharged on September 17, 1957. He was a 90250 Medical Services Specialist, and he served overseas for 18 months.

Jim held various career roles until he retired with 30 years of service at John Deere factory in Waterloo, IA in 1994 where he was a machinist.

Jim believed that his love for Jesus Christ our Lord would see him through any storm he would face.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (Price) Fillinger, his sister, Sierra “Naveda” Dillon, his sons; James Lewis III and Karla, Jade L. Fillinger, Jamie L and Kim Fillinger, Joshua L and Paula Fillinger, Joseph L. Fillinger, his daughters; Jurita L. and Steven Anschutz, Jamia L. and Randy Klausing, Jalia L. Murphy, Jenia L. Jones, Jarvia L. and Rod Thompson, Jovonia L. and Chad Mathey, grandchildren; James Lewis Fillinger IV, Jamie Eiswerth, Bailey Epling, Madison Fillinger, Devon Fillinger, Lauren Fillinger, Ethan Fillinger, Ian Fillinger, Aiden Fillinger, Jacob Fillinger, Michael McCarson, Erika Jones, Rachel McCarl, Brandy Wagner, Melissa Miller, Heather Hepp, Casey Murphy, Charles Matheson, Michael Matheson, Clinton Robin, Lacey Rapp, Chelsie Murray, Courtney Bryant, Jordon Goetz, Joshua Goetz, Mackenzee Goetz, Jamia Mealy and Jacinta Fillinger, and thirty-seven great-grandchildren.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James and Roma Fillinger, his brothers; Geronimo D. Fillinger (January 5, 2017) John B. Fillinger (December 1, 2014), his sisters; Jane Fillinger (1968), Sallie H. Godby (1984), Shawnee C. Belcher Walls (2004), Nawasa V. Browning (2006) Fossie K. Mazzocchi (2016), V. Rusha Fillinger (October 12, 1923), Ula H. Fillinger (April 5, 1924), Camma J. Fillinger (July 18, 1928), and Louisa M. Fillinger (July 10, 1928), his son John Lance Fillinger (1998), his grandsons Christian V. Fillinger (2005) and Gavin D. Eiswerth (2018) and his granddaughter Rylee Jane Fillinger (2008).

Visitation will be held from 4 PM until 6 PM at the Reiff Family Center - Funeral Home and Crematory in Independence, IA on Sunday April 11, 2021. Funeral services and burial will be held at a date to be determined in Crawley Creek, WV.
