Chester E. Cumberland, 89,

Chester died of cancer Friday morning, Jan. 3, 1997, in Kavanagh House, Des Moines. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Emmanuel United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Dr. Charles Klink and the Rev. Bruce Bane. Friends may call from 2 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Maynard, where a Masonic service begins at 4 p.m., and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial: Floral Hills Cemetery, Hazleton.

Survivors include his wife, Eva; three sons, Cleo of West Des Moines, Gaylen of Omaha, Neb., and Jerry of Phoenix; and a sister, Arlene Poggenklass of Oelwein.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, a stepgranddaughter, and two stepgreat-granddaughters.
