Sally Jo Craig, 83 years old, of Robins, Iowa, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at Emery Place in Robins, Iowa. She was born on August 24, 1937, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Ralph Theodore and Eunice Mary (Proctor) Newman. She graduated from high school in Holton, Kansas, with the Class of 1955. She completed a B.S. degree from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. On June 26, 1959, she and Arlo Franklin Craig, Jr. were married in Topeka. After 1963, they made their home in Independence. He preceded her in death in 1998. Mrs. Craig was a member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, P.E.O. Chapter BD, the Buchanan County Historical Society, Ladies Literary, Buchanan County Health Center Auxiliary, Kansas State Alumni Association, and the Red Hat Society.
Mrs. Craig is survived by 3 daughters, Laurie Craig and Anne Craig, both of Cedar Rapids, and Susan Craig of Arlington Heights, Illinois, 1 son, Andrew Craig of Cedar Rapids, 1 brother, John Dean (Gail) Newman of Frisco, Texas, and 1 sister, Mary Gladfelter of Overland Park, Kansas.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Private funeral services will be held at White Funeral Home in Independence. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the Frank and Sally Craig Scholarship Fund at the Mustang Foundation at Bank Iowa in Independence or HHS Alumni Scholarship Fund at Denison State Bank in Holton, Kansas.
