Fatality at Winthrop.
Winthrop, Ia., Nov. 23—John Slemmens, aged 19, was killed near here while helping to move a building. He was driving a four-horse team, walking immediately behind the double tree which split under the severe strain, some part of it flying back and hitting young Slemmens with such force as to litterly cut his abdomen open. He lived about half an hour after being hurt, but never spoke a word.

Transcriber’sNote: Find a Grave shows the name spelled Slemmons and that he was born Dec. 1, 1876 and died Nov. 21, 1896. He is buried in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
