Suicide at Independence.
Hazelton, Sept. 4.—John Lane, a former resident of this place, but for about a year past in the furniture and undertaking business at Livermore, Ia., committed, suicide by hanging last night at the home of a brother-in-law near Independence. He formerly lived on a farm near Castleville, this county, but a couple of years ago rented his place and moved to Hazelton and engaged in the furniture and undertaking business but a short time when he sold out to his partner and moved to Livermore. He leaves a wife and three young children. No cause is assigned for the rash deed, although financial troubles are hinted at.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born April 10, 1859 and died Sept. 4, 1896. He is buried in the Spangler Cemetery.
