Etta Jane Campbell was born November 30, 1936 in Halfway, Oregon, the daughter of Rev. Clifford Ray & Florence Mae (Powell) Pritchard. With her father serving as a minister, Jane moved with her family to Oregon, Washington, Montana and Missouri. She moved to Oelwein, Iowa in December of 1952 when her father became the pastor of the First Christian Church. She graduated from Oelwein High School in the class of 1955 and continued her education at Wartburg College, Waverly, studying music. Jane was united in marriage to James Melvin Campbell on December 22, 1955 at the First Christian Church in Oelwein with her father officiating. At the time of their marriage, Jim was serving our country in the U.S. Navy. Jane lived with her parents in Oelwein, before joining Jim for a short time in 1957, while he was stationed in Long Beach, California. When Jim returned to sea, Jane moved back to Oelwein and then to Highland, Kansas with her parents. Jim finished his naval service in May of 1958. Jim began his career working in the electrical power industry and Jane was a homemaker, raising their three children. With Jim’s work, the family moved to St. Joseph, Missouri where they lived from 1958-1969, to Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin from 1969-1973, to Pardeeville, Wisconsin from 1973-1989, to Lancaster, Wisconsin from 1989-1996 and to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin from 1996 until they moved to Oelwein in 2005. Following their retirement, they spent many enjoyable winters at their home in Arcadia, Florida. They also enjoyed many trips traveling in their RV and taking annual cruises for many years.
Jane was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein as well as the First Presbyterian Church in Arcadia, Florida. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society in Florida. Jane, being raised as the child of a pastor in the church, enjoyed playing instruments, playing piano and was a choir director at various churches she attended for over 40 years.
