Freddie H. Staton, 83 years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died on Friday, August 16, 2019, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.
He was born on March 25, 1936, in rural Buchanan County, Iowa, the son of George Henry and Neva Laurena(Sauer)Staton. He graduated from high school in Brandon, Iowa, with the Class of 1956. From 1957 until 1959, he served in the U.S. Army.
On November 3, 1962, he and the former Virginia Anne McCorkle were married at the First Methodist Church in Independence. Mr. Staton was a life long farmer. He also worked for several years at the John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works and also at Larson Construction in Independence. He retired in 2006. He was a life member of the Bechter-Boies V.F.W. Post #2440 and he was formerly a member of the U.A.W. Local #838. He enjoyed being outside and spending time with his family and friends. In later years, he enjoyed participating in tractor rides.
Mr. Staton is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia, 2 sons, Tom(Kim)Staton and Ken Staton, both of Urbandale, Iowa, 1 daughter, Stephanie(Pat)Decker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and 5 grandchildren, Paige, Blake, and Isabelle Staton, and Lindsey and Mitch Decker. Also surviving is 1 sister, Marlene Schmitt of Robins, Iowa, 1 niece, several nephews, and 1 sister-in-law, Nancy Birdwell of Iowa Falls, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister in infancy.
Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, August 19th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. Private burial services will be held at Mt.Hope Cemetery in Independence with Pastor James Wolf officiating.
