Scott Anthony Buchheit, 57, of Summerville, South Carolina, and formerly of Independence, Iowa, died of cancer, Tuesday, May 21, 2019, in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.
Local services will be held 10:30 a.m. – Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, IA with Fr. David Beckman officiating. Burial was held in South Carolina. Scott was a US Navy Veteran.
Scott was born January 26, 1962 in Independence, Iowa, to the late Sabinus Anthony and Helen Marie Rockwell Buchheit. After Scott graduated from Saint John's High School in Independence, Iowa in 1980, he went on to proudly serve his country during the Cold War in the US Navy Submarine Service as a Radioman First Class Petty Officer from 1981-1987-mostly assigned to the Nuclear Fast Attack Submarine, USS Pintado SSN 672. He began is civilian career in 1987 at Milcom Systems Corp where he met the love of his life and they married July 8, 1995.
Scott enjoyed coaching/umpiring for 15 years at Crowfield Little League. Many friendships were developed on the ball field which turned into other activities such as his fantasy football draft & playing on the pool league. He received his associates degree after attending Trident Technical College & was currently enrolled at the Citadel. He was also currently employed with Serco as a Senior Project Manager. Scott enjoyed his job & all co-workers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Cindy Shamblin Buchheit, his son, Scott Anthony Buchheit II, his step-son, Dusty Delk(Amber),two grandchildren, Dustin and Dystani and six siblings, David(Rosann)Buchheit of Dyersville, IA, Alan(Kendra)Buchheit of Show Low, AZ, Cindy(John) White of Jesup, IA, Jennifer(Clay)Marquis of Alton, IL, Deb(Robert)Burger of Marion, IA, and Barb(Mark)Haisch of Clive, IA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Scott is preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Norman Buchheit; and his mother and father in law, Ray & Marie Shamblin.
