Leslie LeRoy Harvey Leohr, 91, of Winthrop, IA died Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Unity Point - St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA.

He was born on October 19, 1927 in Beaman, IA the son of Roy E. and Gertie M. (Bockes) Leohr. He attended school in Grundy Center, IA and was a 1946 graduate of Grundy Center High School. On September 22, 1950 he married Nettie C. Anselme at the Gifford Congressional Church in Gifford, IA. He joined the U.S. Army on December 11, 1950 and served proudly as an Executive Chef during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the Army in 1952 he and Nettie moved back to the Grundy Center area. In 1956 they purchased a farm in rural Quasqueton, IA where they lived and farmed for many years. He also worked for the Mental Health Institute in Independence, IA as the Food Service Supervisor. He was an active member of the Quasqueton Union Church and served as a deacon there for many years.

He is survived by his children; Rosemary J. McCombs, Jesup, IA, Theresa L. Leohr, Independence, IA, and Charles L. (Heidi) Leohr, Waverly, IA, seven grandchildren; Brandy (Brad) Schultz, Independence, IA, Bryan (Dana) McCombs, Dysart, IA, Pat (Lynette) Hoover, Troy Mills, IA, Michelle Hoover, Troy Mills, IA, Ashley (Callan) Lindsay, Masonville, IA, Jason (Molly) Hocken, Independence, IA, and Emma Leohr, Waverly, IA, and seventeen great grandchildren, a son-in-law DeWayne (Robin Kress) Hoover, Walker, IA, and two nephews Myron and Darrell Bumsted.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Gertie Leohr, his wife Nettie C. Leohr, a daughter Virginia A. Hoover, and a sister Dorothy Bumsted.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday March 6, 2019, at the Quasqueton Union Church in Quasqueton, IA, with Rev. Kevin Jennings Officiating. Burial will be held at the Quasqueton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 8 PM on Monday March 4, 2019 at the Reiff Family Center - Funeral Home in Independence, IA.
