LuCean M. Fangman, 91 entered into her eternal rest on Friday, January 18, 2019 at ABCM East in Independence, Iowa
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 21, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monti, Iowa. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 20 from 2 PM until 6 PM at the Monti Community Center in Monti, Iowa. A rosary will be held at 1:30 PM Sunday and a scripture service at 6 PM Sunday at the Monti Community center. Visitation will be on Monday after 10 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monti, Iowa. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery at Monti, Iowa.

LuCean Madonna Fangman was born March 3, 1927 in Watauga, South Dakota, the eldest child of Joseph and Orpha Staudenraus Schmit. At the age of 7, her family moved from Watauga to Everett, Washington where they lived for one year. They then returned to South Dakota for a short period, and them came back to Iowa to live near her grandparents. They moved several times before settling south of Monti in March of 1942. She graduated from Coggon High School in 1945. On October 9, 1948 LuCean was married to Daniel Fangman at St. Patrick’s Church in Monti. LuCean and Dan settled on a farm east of Monti, where they lived their entire lives together.

LuCean spent her life on the farm doing anything that needed to be done, and was locally known for her chickens and eggs. The meals she fixed for harvesting crews were legends on their own and looked forward to by those who had the pleasure of helping on the farm. She also opened her home to countless relatives, family, and friends when they needed a place to stay. She was always putting the needs of others before her own. She was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monti.

LuCean was preceded in death by her husband Daniel, two sons Paul and Gary, and brother Lloyd.She is survived by ten children: Marge (Bob) of Wheaton, Illinois; Roger (Sue) of Rowley; Liz Rickels-Ster of Center Point; Sheila (daughter-in-law) of Independence; Barb (Dennis) Sullivan of Winthrop; Mark of Independence; Deb (Nick) Crawford of Winthrop; Phil (Threasa) of Masonville; Doug of Masonville; Cathy Banks of Center Point; and Greg (Christine) of Independence; twenty four grandchildren; and twenty great grandchildren; five siblings: Robert Schmit of North Pole, Alaska; Lorraine Schmit of Carmel, California; J’Neane Coffman of Clifton, Virginia; Janet (Les) Lammers of Estherville, Iowa; Leo (Kaye) Schmit of Winthrop; and sister-in-law Rosemary Schmit-Salisbury of Missouri.

The Fawcett Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winthrop is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials are suggested for Camp Courageous and the Historical societies at Quasky, Winthrop, or Coggon.
