Donna Marie (Stone) Green, 85, of Independence, Iowa passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Lexington Estates in Independence.

She was born on October 27, 1933 near Greeley, Iowa, the daughter of Stanley and Marvel (Jencks) Stone. She attended schools in Greeley and Lamont, Iowa and graduated from Lamont High School in 1951.

Donna attended Upper Iowa University for one year before marrying High School sweetheart Charles Green. The couple was married at United Methodist Church in Strawberry Point in 1952. Four children were born to this union.
Donna worked at Raytheon in Oelwein and sold World Book encyclopedias before returning to Upper Iowa to complete her education. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and Library Science in 1971. Following graduation she spent her entire career serving students at Starmont School. She taught Middle School for many years and then became the Middle School Librarian.

Donna’s greatest pride was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed family get-togethers and enjoyed picnics at the Backbone State park. She took great pride in keeping track of all the family members and their activities. In later years, Donna and Charles often traveled to the Arizona/Nevada region in the winter to break up the long Iowa winters. When the weather was warm she enjoyed spending time with family and friends in northern Minnesota.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Charles of Independence, Iowa; four children: William (Rozella) Green of Strawberry Point, Ronald (Patty) Green of Lacrosse, WI., Julie (Lans) Flickinger of Independence, and Wallace (Bev) Green of Toddville; nine granddaughters and sixteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother: Merle (Elva Jean) Stone; one sister: Cheryll (Stone) Steege; two brothers-in-law: Larry (Alice) Green, James Green; and one sister-in-law: Kathy Green.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Dean Stone, Claude Stone; and one sister: Mardelle (Stone) Thompson.

Services are scheduled for 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 10, 2018 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Lamont with Pastor Craig Luttrell officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, Dec. 9 from 2 PM until 5 PM at the Grace United Methodist Church in Lamont. Inurnment will be at Madison Cemetery south of Aurora, Iowa.
