Wilbur O. “Bill” Bern, 88, of Fairbank, Iowa died on Tuesday evening, May 25, 2010 at Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein, Iowa

Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 11, 2010 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, Iowa; Officiating: Rev. John Kerr; Visitation: from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home where there will be a public Masonic service by Hebron Masonic Lodge # 374 A.F. & A.M. of Oelwein, Iowa at 6:30 P.M. and a Military Memorial service at 7:30 P.M. by the Aurora American Legion Post # 435 of Aurora, Iowa; Interment: 2:30 P.M. on Friday, June 11, 2010 at the Jackson Township Cemetery, Hardin County, near Owasa,Iowa

Bill is survived by:
2 Daughters—Wendy (Chuck)Strzesak of Wiley, Colorado and Debbie (Danny) Nolen of Colorado Springs, Colorado
many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren
Brother—Russell (Betty) Bern of Stover, Missouri
Nephew—Bruce Bern of British Columbia, Canada
Niece—Sandra Delay of Cedar Rapids, Iowa

He was preceded in death by his Parents—Wife (Grace Fern Hahn Bern on June 10, 1987)—Son (James Wetherbee)—2 Brothers (Ralph Bern and Harold Bern) and a Infant Sister (Nadine).

Wilbur Orrin Bern was born on March 31, 1922 at Lincoln, Iowa the son of Harry and Julia (Verly) Bern. He attended several schools through the tenth grade. Bill was in the U.S. Army during World War II and served in England, France and Germany from 1942 to 1945. He lived in Oelwein from 1945 to 1962 and drove trucks for OCCO Feeds in Oelwein. Bill moved to Sioux City and raced horses for two years. He then went back to truck driving and later started and built his own Bern Trucking Fleet. He retired in 1985. Bill married Grace Fern Hahn on June 22, 1968 at Elk Point, South Dakota. Bill and Grace bought a motor home and they toured all of the states from Wisconsin to Washington, Florida and back home. Bill retired in full in 1987 and moved to Harpers Ferry. Grace died on June 7, 1987. He moved to Maynard, Iowa in 1996. Bill later moved to Fairbank, Iowa and had been a resident of Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein since September 10, 2009. He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge (Abu Behr Shrine) and a member of the Aurora American Legion Post # 435 at Aurora, Iowa.
