Charlene Ann Putz was born November 30, 1948 at Beloit, WI, the daughter of Robert and Lida Chalmers Keller. She attended Lincoln school in Beloit. After the death of her mother in a car accident, Charlene moved to California and was raised by her aunt Lila.

Charlene was married to Cecil Oakes in California in 1966. To this union were born three children: Charlene, Robert, and Bridget. Charlene and Cecil later divorced.

Charlene ran a restaurant in LeHigh Acres, FL. for several years. After moving to Iowa, she opened a restaurant in Manchester, IA , called Char’s Café and later had Charlene’s Restaurant and Lounge in Lamont. She was noted for her famous prime rib and Fish Fries.

Charlene Putz, 69, of Lamont entered into her eternal rest peacefully with her family at her side on Friday, January 19, 2018 at St. Luke’s Unity Point Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Keith Keller.

Survivors include her three children: Charlene Gastineau of Brentwood, CA; Robert Oakes of Lamont, IA; and Bridget Opperman (Marlin Dettman) of McGregor, IA; seven grandchildren: Stephanie Penney of Hawkeye, IA; Megan Penney of Clermont, IA; Lane Penney of Manchester, IA; Kristin Lemmon of Culver City, CA; Lindsey Pitcairn of Brentwood, CA; Jared Oakes of Lamont, IA; and Camryn Oakes of Strawberry Point, IA; five great grandchildren, a brother Gordon Keller of Beloit, WI; and a sister Evelyn Wrick of Beloit, WI.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, January 21 , 2018 in the Grace United Methodist Church at Lamont, Iowa with Pastor Raelonna Patrick officiating. Friends may call at the Church from 1 PM until services Sunday and a luncheon and fellowship will follow the services in the Church basement. . As per her request she was cremated.
